In our Literacy Centers notebooks, we created puzzles with different animals and people. These puzzles help us to compare size and write sentences about comparing size. (We will be starting an English/Social Studies project tomorrow, in which we will be using these types of words to compare sizes of people, using adjectives we have learned during English.)

We will be doing 1-minute math everyday except Wednesdays. When you pass one number you should start practicing for the next addition questions. If you did not pass your number, you should continue to practice this number so you can become faster and move forward.

  • Doubles and Doubles + 1 Work

Complete the worksheets by referring to the information we wrote in our Math notebooks today. You have a list of all of the "doubles" and "doubles + 1" addition facts and the definitions of each of these in your Math Dictionary. Color the doubles addition facts red and the doubles + 1 addition facts blue. Complete the rest of the addition table without color, just answer the addition questions be reading the addition table.

Circle the big number for addition problem on the first page of your homework. Then COUNT ON to find your answer. On the second page, read the directions at the top of each column and write an addition problem that shows counting on by 1, 2, or 3. This week we have been talking about the life cycles of animals. We are learning about animals change and grow over time. This coming week each student will choose an animal he/she would like to know more about. We will be doing a research project and poster about this animal. this weekend you can start to find information about an animal you would like to do for your project and start to learn about this animal. This will be an in-class project, but you can start to learn and be ready for our work next week in class.

  • Minute Math Starts Thursday

Beginning this Thursday we will be starting "Minute Math". This in-class activity we will be doing each day we have Math. Each student will have one minute to complete as many addition problems as they can. We will be practicing addition problems this way to increase our speed and accuracy in answering addition questions. This will help us solve problems faster and be ready for other, more difficult math topics in the future.



  • Practice Adding Flashcards from the 0´s to the 11´s

By practicing with these flash cards you will be able to memorize these math facts and be a great math student. It is important to know all of these math facts by heart and be able to answer them quickly and correctly.

Review your chapter 4 math test with Mom and Dad and ask them to sign your work.



  • Practice Addition Flashcards 0-8

Use the flashcards we made in class to practice adding in your head. Our next math chapter is all about addition so we need to practice these math facts so we know them all by heart. On Thursday we will start our "One Minute Math".


One Minute Math is something we will be doing to practice and learn our addition math facts up to 11. Each day at the start of Math class we will have 1 minute to complete a page of addition problems. In order to be great math students, we need to be able to solve these problems quickly and correctly. When you can complete your whole page in less than one minute and show all of the correct answers you will move to the next set of questions. Everyone in class will start with all of the 0 addition problems (0+1, 0+2, etc.). We all need to be addition superstars but we can only do this with lots of practice! (At school and at home.) Good luck boys and girls!

Cuando seas capaz de contestar toda la página en menos de un minuto y correctamente podras pasar al siguiente set de sumas. Todos en la clase comenzaran con las sumas de 0 (0+1,0+2 etc). Todos tenemos que ser super estrellas de la suma pero todo esto se gana solo con práctica! ( en el colegio y en la casa) buena suerte niños y niñas!

3. I will be responsible with my homework. I will complete ALL of my homeowrk each night. I will put my homework in the (white) basket every morning (right away) when I get to school. I will ask questions when I do not understand something.




4. I will be responsible with my Reading Log. I will complete at least 20 minutes of reading in English every night and have Mom or Dad sign my Reading Log after I read and write the title and minutes on my log. I will put my Reading Log in the box every morning (right away) when I get to school.




5. I will be responsible with my Agenda. I will ask Mom or Dad to sign my Agenda every night after I complete all of my homework and have showed them my complete work. I will put my Agenda in the (orange) basket every morning (right away) when I get to school.




6. I understand that listening to others is an important way to learn new things.




7. I understand that respecting others is an important thing to do. When I respect others, I will learn many new things. I can show respect to others by listening, praising, paying attention and being a good friend.




6. I understand there will be consequences for my actions, should I choose not to complete my homework, listen, or show respect to others in class. This consequence is a 15-minute detention during my recess (9:00-9:15).




7. I understand that Miss Jill and Miss Luza can help me if I have questions about what to do for homework. I know when to ask these questions and how to get help if there is something I do not know how to do.

  • Practice singing Jngle Bells

We will add the actions for the song on Monday. You need to know it ALL by then without looking at the words.

  • Practice A Christmas Carol play

Practice reading your lines that you have for the play. You need to know who is on stage with you, when you are on stage and who talks before you. Start memorizing your lines, without your script to practice for the presentation next Friday (December 18th).

Tomorrow we will do our reading comprehension in the computer lab. Finish your reading at home tonight so you are prepared for your work in class.

  • Word Work Quiz

We will be doing this quiz on Wednesday, NOT tomorrow.

NOTES

  • Candle Night is tomorrow night!

The students need to be at school, IN OUR CLASSROOM (2B) at 6:30. You need to wear a red t-shirt with blue jeans and black shoes (or your school shoes). Also, wear a red Santa hat. The presentation will begin at 7:00.

Families, do not forget your ticket to enter the Coliseum. You will not be allowed in without this ticket. If you have other family members that would like to come to see the presentation, they are welcome to come and sit in the cafeteria and watch everything from the big screen there.

After the presentation, the students will return to the classroom with Miss Jill. Parents will need to pick their student up from the classroom and then the students are free to be with their family for the rest of the night. Your student can only leave the classroom with his or her parent. We are doing this for all students in elementary to avoid children getting lost and having many worried parents. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

We are so excited for this wonderful presentation our students have prepared and hope you plan to share this special night with us at Colegio Panamericano.

  • Tomorrow we have an early dismissal at 12:30.

There will be sports in the afternoon between parents, students and staff. Please come to watch and cheer us on!

We are almost finished with our Math Bellwork book. This weekend you will have a chance to ear extra points for Math by completing the book, up to page 62. Bring your Bellwork book back to school on Tuesday with all that you can complete this weekend to receive extra credit.



You must bring your Bellwork book back to school on Tuesday, even if you do not want to do any extra credit work for Math.

  • We tried our first fruit today! Hooray! We started to harvest one of our fruits today. We all tried a radish, some of tried this for the first time! Some of us liked it more than others. Great work students and families, our garden is growing more everyday!

Some people consider a radish a fruit and others a vegetable. We choose to grow radishes as one of our fruit because of our limited time and we really wanted to eat some fruit this year. Congratulations boys and girls on all of your hard work! Our garden is growing!
